Local Information for Illinois:
The Illinois Department of Public Health keeps the state's records on births, deaths, marriages, civil unions and dissolutions. Birth and death
records collected by the Department date back to 1916. If you are seeking a copy of the record, the county and circuit clerks may have the document on file.
Several resources are available for doing genealogical research. Births and deaths before 1916 and marriages before 1962 are recorded only in the office of
the county clerk where the event occurred. Most county clerks have indexes to the records that are prior to 1916 that are available for genealogical research.
